"Gun Control" was Simon Fellowes' first solo album. It was released one month after Fellowes left Intaferon, an English new wave duo consisting of him and Simon Gillham.
Fellowes removed the Intaferon singles from the album, and wrote three new tracks. By the time the album was complete, Fellowes had moved from London to New York and was advised by the record company to rename the American version of the album "Gun".
